Essential Donations
In contrast to other JTJ Community Investments 'essential donations' are typically 'once off' contributions whose assessed value is deemed 'essential'.
Essential donations comprise financial and other contributions directed towards dignity and quality of life (inclusive of the environment).
Other contributions are in the form of time and effort; skills and knowledge transfer; educational materials; mosquito nets; parts of bicycles; bicycles; winter blankets; writing materials; relationship building and networking; participatory engagements such as community asset mapping, timelines, rapid appraisals etc.
Financial contributions tend to be made for specific medical/health requirements. Mosquito nets are purchased and delivered rather than 'cheque financed'.
Essential donations project allows JTJ Community Investment to step outside of its usual projects and beneficiary communities to reach others in need.
Benefiting from past experiences 'essential donations' are given primarily on the basis of the private investors assessment of value - which is grounded in first hand knowledge of the community and/or initiative. Therefore there is no application process other than requests for information by the investors.
In 2006 mosquito nets will be donated to beneficiaries in the Mfuwe Community (Zambia). Delivery will take place between 2006 and 2007.
